The blue sky is dotted with colourful umbrellas. Flying
high. The Para gliders are all set to explore the pristine
beauty of Kamshet from a height. Eleven kilometers from
Lonavla and Khandala, Kamshet is known as the “Para
glider’s Paradise”. The countryside is famous
for its beautiful lakes surrounded by breath taking
landscapes.
The harvesting season in Kamshet has the paddy fields
waving in the breeze. Kamshet is a silent but a beautiful
place in Maharshtra. Kamshet is particularly famous
for Para gliding and other adventure sports. This hilly
area stands at an altitude of 2200 feet. Kamshet is
a weekend gateway for many Mumbaiites.
Places to Visit:
Golden Glades
This is the base camp for most of the paraglide. The
clear fields in the area are quite helpful for the gliders.
Shinde Wadi
This gentle sloping hill is famous amongst the trainees
of Para gliding. This hill also has a brief history
to itself. It is believed that Madhavrao Shinde's soldiers
fired a cannon from the top of the hill to stop the
advancing British Battalion.
Shelar's village
This village is known for its festivals during the
Harvest season.
How to reach there:
By Air, Mumbai and Pune are the closest airports
By rail, Mumbai is well connected by the Main line
trains to Lonavala and then the frequent local train
to Kamshet
By road, Mumbai is 110 kilometers from Kamshet. Regular
state buses play from Mumbai to Lonavla. Kamshet can
be reached from Lonavla by a rickshaw or train.
Where to stay:
Since most of the paragliders prefer to visit Kamshet
for just a half day. There are camp bases at Golden
Glades. However most of the tourists prefer to stay
at Lonavla and Khandala. There are decent staying options
