the “trekking paradise” of Maharashtra, Bhandardara.
The tranquility in this locale makes it a favourite amongst
the tired city goers. The deep valley of Bhandardara, with
Radha falls dancing on it, makes it a tourist’s pleasure.
There are many breathtaking landscapes, which can be viewed
from many viewpoints in Bhandardara.
The steep mountains of the region, makes it a suitable place
for trekkers. Bhandardara is famous for a half-day trek or
picnic. 70kms from Nasik, the cleanliness in the area makes
it a hot tourist spot.
Places to Visit
Wilson Dam
Popularly known as the Bhandardara dam. This is one of the
oldest dams of Asia. Standing at a height of 150m, this dam
has a beautiful garden and a swimming pool at its base. However
the main attraction of this place is the Umbrella falls. This
makes the Wilson Dam a suitable place for picnics.
Arthur Lake
This clean and serene lake of Bhandardara is located amidst
greenery. This lake originates from the Pravara River.
Radha Falls
Streamlets from the Arthur Lake gush down to form the most
picturesque falls of Bhandardara, Radha Falls. This 45m falls
is used for Hydropower generation.
Agasti Rishi Ashram
The peaceful ashram of Bhandardara attracts a lot of tourists.
And is also often a lodging place for many tourists. This
ashram, situated at the base of Pravara River, is preffered
because of its scenic beauty and quiet ambience.
Amriteshwar Temple
Amriteshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple
houses an idol of Lord Shiva. The magnificent Hemadpanti style
of architecture gives the temple a historical look.
Mount Kalsubai
Mount Kalsubai is the highest peak of Maharshtra, on the
Sahyadri range. Standing at an altitude of 1,646m above sea
level, this mountain is famous for trekking. It also gives
breathtaking views of the Arthur Lake and the Wilson Dam.
Ratangadh Fort
This fort is famous for trekking, too. But it also narrates
a historical story. This Fort was captured by Chatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj and was one of his favorite forts. The fort offers
great views of the countryside. One of the many attractions
that captivate the tourist's eye is the Konkan Kada, which
is often termed as the trekker's delight.
Ghatghar
It is one of the famous viewpoints. It is situated 22kms
from Bhandardara and offers excellent views of the Sahyadri
ranges.
How to get to Bhadardara
By air, the nearest airport is Nashik at 93- km. Nasik is
well connected to Mumbai.
By rail, the nearest railway station is Igatpuri at 45-km
on Central Railway Line.
By road, Bombay to Bhandardara is 185 km. Buses ply regularly
from Igatpuri to Bhandardara
Where to stay at Bhandardara
Bhandardara is famous as a half day picnic or trek spot.
Therefore most of the tourists choose to stay at Nasik, nearest
to Bhandardara. Nasik offers decent staying options. (Check

choose Agasti Ashram for lodging.
Best Time to Visit
Bhandardara is paradise for tourists during the monsoons.
Therefore the best time to visit Bhandardara is during the
months of June and July.
