Travelling within Goa
Goa has many beautiful places you can visit. The lovely beaches, churches built in the Portuguese era, quaint little villas, many charming architectural delights and so much more.
When you visit Goa, you'll soon be wondering how you can travel all those long distances. Every time you try to hire a rickshaw or a taxi, it'll seem like they want to fleece you. You're right because for small distances such as a kilometre or two, sometimes cabbies will quote Rs.80-Rs.100 (US $ 2-$ 2.5). This is five times as much as in Mumbai. The best options are bikes and cycles available for hire on a daily rental basis, if you can ride them. You can also hire jeeps such as the Maruti Gypsy.

There are also local buses from everywhere to anywhere. If you're not in too much of a hurry and want to experience the earthy flavour of travelling with a merry crowd, go by bus. It will cruise around at the starting point, waiting for an almost full load before commencing, and along the way too (no fixed stops, only whistle-stops)., they'll rarely refuse to take another passenger. It's really a unique experience, and so economical too.
If you're going to be in Goa for a while you can also get a mobile phone card. Used mobile phones are available for Rs. 1,000 upwards.
Internet cafes with reasonably good internet speeds are available at most locations in Panjim. Close to Calangute beach, there are at least three Internet cafes, including one that is a franchise of Satyam Infoway. The speed of Internet access is good enough to surf and send email.
