Bipasha Basu

- Vikram Chandiramani

Bipasha Basu, the dusky girl from the land that has given Suchitra Sen, Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee, arrived with a bang as girl with negative shades in Ajnabee. But she overshadowed the leading lady Kareena Kapoor with her sex appeal and performance. So much that an insecure Kareena, sensing Bipasha’s superior presence, harassed Bipasha to tears during the making of the film. Her next film, Mahesh Bhatt’s Raaz, was as successful and Bipasha arrived!

There has been no looking back for her.

Gunaah, Jism (that flaunted her sex appeal and added millions to her fan list), Aetbaar, Rakht, Rudraksh, Madhoshi, Chehra, Apharan, Shikhar, Darna Zaroori Hai and Phir Hera Pheri added to her stature though some didn’t fare well at the box office. Bipasha Basu starred in No Entry which worked well at the box office.

Her pairing up with Uday Chopra in Dhoom 2 seems to have been a mistake as she was overshadowed by Aishwarya Rai.

Corporate has done reasonably well and Omkara, though not a major success by far has brought her appreciation and Bipasha has reason to be happy. On personal level, her equation with most of her stars is good and Bipasha may really go places. Her other forthcoming films are Fool and Final and Dus Kahaniyaan.
