"Everything in the industry comes with an expiry date - stardom, friendship and even a relationship you thought was for life." says Sushmita Sen. She became a star the moment she was chosen 'Femina Miss India-Universe', and a superstar when she was crowned 'Miss Universe'. Typically, the first thing she did was to drop her old boyfriend and accept what she considered to be the best film offer : Mahesh Bhatt's 'Dastak'.
The role was made for her as she played herself, a beauty queen, in the film. She is kidnapped by a psychopath in love with her, a role played superbly by Sharad Kapoor. She is rescued by a cop, boyfriend played by Mukul Dev. It was a good beginning but the flick did not make much noise at the box office.
Sush did. She gave Sen-sational quotes (Mahesh Bhatt helped), remained in thegossip columns, fell in love with Vikram Bhatt and freaked out. 'Zor' was another film of her's. If Bobby Deol had Aishawarya Rai as his leading lady, Sunny Deol would have Sushmita Sen. But 'Zor' made Sush weaker at the box-office.
Eventually 'Main Hoon Na' with Shahrukh Khan came along and Sush is today a reasonably saleable actress.
Sushmita Sen has an adopted daughter 'Renee' and has been through may failed relationships. Prominent among them are with hotelier Sanjay Narang, director Vikram Bhatt and actor Randeep Hooda.
