There are many girls who cannot act but survive due to sex appeal, right contacts and co-operation. Shilpa Shirodkar is one of them. She got into films even before completing her school education. Rakesh Nath aka Rikku, the star secretary of the stars (Madhuri and Anil Kapoor), backed her to the hilt. He has always seen to it that she gets coverage in glossies and good roles in top set-ups.
She was either expressionless or hammed but Shilpa went on to get more work. She became so complacent that she didn't worry about her only asset - her figure - either. What was a pleasantly plump figure, which, in the rain numbers, invited ceetees from the frontbenchers almost turned into a tub of lard.
The high point of her career, in her words, has been films with Amitabh Bachchan: 'Khuda Gawah' and 'Hum'. But these were wasted opportunities. Besides, Bachchan was never her leading man.
Shilpa has figured in a heavy `Mrityudand` too but without any appreciation from the critics.
Usually, the girls critics do not appreciate, are loved by the masses. Shilpa was in that position till she let go and bloated. She eventually got married and quit Bollywood.
