Reliance Wireless Data Card review

Reliance Wireless Data Card is an offering from Reliance Netconnect, Reliance Infocomm. They offer wireless speeds of upto 144 kbps with their data card. There are two plans offered by Reliance Infocomm. The 12 month subscription plan is called the 'freedom' plan and has a monthly rental of Rs.650. The data transfer is limited to 1GB/month with this plan. Additional data transfer, beyond this limit is billed at Rs.2/MB. Their second offer is a 24 month subscription plan called the 'swift 40' which gives you 20 hours usage during the day and 20 hours usage during the night. Usage beyond this is billed at 50 paise/min.

You'll need to purchase a data card if you opt for either of these plans. Reliance Infocomm offers A PCMCIA card at Rs.2990 and a USB modem at Rs.2850. Which of these you opt for will depend on the compatibility with your laptop/desktop computer. Almost all computers sold these days come with USB slots and if your notebook/desktop has a USB port, we recommend you opt for the USB modem, assuming you're opting for the Reliance Wireless Data Card.

You can get the PCMCIA card/ USB Modem free of cost if you pay 12 or 24 months rental upfront. This seems an attractive option but would require paying upfront for a whole year, which is Rs.4800 for the freedom plan itself. Reliance Netconnect also offers other plans for users with limited internet usage. Their lowest priced plan is the 'pay as you go plan' which costs Rs.174 a month. This amount is a rental and doesn't give you any free minutes. You pay 60 paise per minute during the day and 30 paise during the night when you use their internet connection. Although this is low priced, it may not be the ideal plan for you if your usage is relatively higher.

If you're still using a Reliance phone to connect to the internet via your laptop or some other expensive option, the Reliance Data Card may be something you can consider. Thee Reliance Wireless Data Card is suitable on the move. If you have a Desktop or a laptops that stays parked on your table, most of the month, a 24-7 unlimited connection from your local cable operator may be far cheaper, costing Rs.600-Rs.1000. This can't be used with your laptop though.
