Uma Shankar Misra leads eight member delegation to Interpol General Assembly session at Berlin

The Director, CBI and Head of National Central Bureau of India (Interpol, New Delhi), Shri U.S.Misra is leading an eight member delegation to the 74th General Assembly Session of the Interpol being held at Berlin, Germany. The other members of the delegation include the Director General of Police, Orissa, Shri Suchit Das and Joint Secretary (Security), Ministry of Home Affairs, Sh. Rakesh. During the four days of deliberations of the Assembly between the 19th and 22nd September, 2005, there will be regional presentation by member countries on selected topics, such as, drug trafficking, organised crime, public security and terrorism. In addition, the member countries will also be updated on the expansion and success of the Interpol's data bases, such as those on DNA, stolen travel documents and internet child abuse. Other items on the agenda include regional collaboration with the United Nations and Interpol's role following the Asian Tsunami of 2004. Sh. Misra as Head of Indian delegation will place India's concern on cyber crime at the Assembly.

Interpol (International Police Organisation) is the International body for ensuring cooperation in dealing with crimes transcending national boundaries. India became a member of Interpol in 1949 and the total number of member states is currently 182. The General Assembly Session is the most important event on the calendar of Interpol in which major decisions about its programs and policies are taken. The 73rd General Assembly Session of Interpol was held at Cancun, (Mexico) last year.
