Six year jail term for Ghaziabad Businessman for assaulting I.T. officials

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Ghaziabad yesterday sentenced Sh.B.M.Bhasin, a businessman to undergo six year Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 50,000/-. His father Sh. S.R.Bhasin was also convicted and awarded punishment with a fine of Rs. 50,000/-. Both the son and father were punished for assaulting and deterring Income-Tax officials from duty who raided their premises in Muzaffarnagar in the year of 1989. The CBI investigation revealed that Income-Tax officials of Meerut had raided the residential and business premises of S.R.Bhasin at Muzaffarnagar (U.P.) on 14.9.89. The income tax raiding party was assaulted by a mob led by the father son duo. The mob also attacked the journalists/photographers, who were making video coverage of the incident. The U.P. Police had registered two seperate criminal cases on the complaints of income-tax officials and journalists which were later transferred to CBI for investigation.
