The total meat production in the country this year is expected to be 4.69 million tons. The level of processing for value added meat and meat products in the country is less than 1 per cent per annum. This is because of low processing of value added meat products and consumer preference for fresh meat.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries promotes the meat industry by providing financial aid for setting up food processing units, creation of infrastructure and support for research and development.
