CBI arrests DRI official accepting Rs 5 lakh bribe

CBI has arrested a Senior Intelligence Officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. five lakh from the complainant yesterday. The trap was laid on
the basis of a complaint from a person whose residential premises were raided by DRI on 8.9.05 for evasion of excise duty. It is alleged in the FIR that the officer in connivance with his senior demanded a sum of Rs.50 lakh from the complainant in order to favour him in the case registered with DRI. Rs Five lakh was to be paid as the first installment.

Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused officer and another senior officer of the DRI whose role in the entire matter is also being probed.
