25 major projects each costing Rs.100 crore and above have been completed in the first quarter of the current financial year. These infrastructural projects are in Railways, Telecom, Power, Road Transport and Highways and Petroleum sectors. This is disclosed in the latest Flash Report of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Major and Mega Central Sector Projects. The Report for June 2005 carried information on the status of 313 projects including 45 Mega projects of Rs.1000 crore and above.
Of the 25, completed during the first quarter, the only Mega project commissioned pertains to Ministry of Petroleum i.e. the DHDT & M.S.Q Project at Mathura Refinery of the Indian Oil Corporation. The project originally estimated at Rs.1483 crore, with date of completion being August 2004, has registered a time-delay of 10 months but at a reduced cumulative expenditure of Rs.1257.47 crore.
The Major projects completed during the quarter are; Railways - Kuppam-Whitefield Doubling (South Western Railways), Tamluk-Digha New Line (South Eastern Railways), Mansi-Saharsa, (Gauge Conversion) East-Central Railway, Agrafort-Bandikui, (Gauge Conversion) (North-Western Railways); Telecom - IP Network with Routers (BSNL), Managed Leased Line Network (BSNL), Punjab CMTS, CMTS Phase III(BSNL) (Punjab), CMTS-Phase-III (BSNL)(Karnataka), GSM Project Motorola (MTNL) (Delhi), Expansion of GSM Network (MTNL) (Delhi), Andhra Pradesh CMTS(BSNL), Road Transport and Highways Kavali-Nellore (NH-5), Bridges Section (NH-5), Bhadrak-Chandikhole (NH-5), Srikakulam-Champawati (NH-5), Ganjam-Icchapuram (NH-5), Shikohabad-Etawah (NH-2), Panagarh-Palsit (NH-2), Surat-Atul (NH-8), Palasa-Srikakulam (NH-5) all belonging to Golden Quadrilateral packages and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Connectivity (Ph-1) (NH-4B & 4), Petroleum Sidpur-Sanganer Product Pipe Line (Indian Oil Corporation) and Power Raipur-Chandrapur 400KV Line (Power grid). Of these completed projects, 8 have reported both cost and time over-runs while others except the power grid transmission line project, registered only time over-run. The Power Grid Project was completed much ahead of schedule
