year long celebration to mark lal bahadur shastri’s birth centenary

The Government has decided to celebrate the birth centenary of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri for a period of one year commencing 2nd October, 2004. Prime Minister, Shri Manmohan Singh will Chair the 33-member National Committee constituted to chalk out the programme for the celebration of Birth Centenary. The year long celebration will commence with the P.M. Chairing a function in Delhi on October 2, 2004.

The national committee will have Shri S. Jaipal Reddy as Vice Chairman. Other Members of the Committee include ex-Prime Ministers Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao, Shri Chandrashekhar, Srhi V. P. Singh, Shri H.D. Devegowda, Shri I.K. Gujral and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Other Members of the Committee are Smt. Sonia Gandhi, President Indian National Congress, Shri Harkrishan Singh Surjeet, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister for Defence, Shri Arjun Singh, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Shiv Raj Patil, Union Minister for Home Affairs, Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture, Shri Sunil Dutt, Union Minister for Youth & Sports, Smt.
