The Vice President Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has expressed deep grief at the passing away of Dr. Mulk Raj Anand, one of the founding fathers of the Indian English novel. Describing Dr. Anand father of the Indian English novel, a brilliant writer and a progressive thinker, the Vice President said that Dr. Mulk Raj Anand was a master of the art and the craft of all genres of writing, especially novels and short stories. In his writings, he captured the essence of life in India and portrayed the trials and tribulations of the poor and the dispossessed with compassion and sensitivity. He was truly a great nationalist for whom the country and her welfare remained uppermost in his mind. Even in his ripe old age, his spirit and his commitment to national cause never dimmed.
In his death, the country has lost a literateur of immense stature who made India proud with his creative writings, the Vice President said.
My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and pray the Almighty to grant them strength and fortitude to withstand this tragedy, Shri Shekhawat added.
