The second Institute of its kind in the country, the Advanced Training Institute for Electronics and Process Instrumentation (ATI - EPI), Dehradun, is playing an important role in developing the technical skills of the youth for their gainful employment. It has been inspired with the success of the ATI – EPI at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the Ministry of Labour, ATI - EPI, Dehradun caters to the skill training needs of industries, government/semi-government departments and various organizations in the field of Electronics and Process Instrumentation. Its main objective is to update and upgrade the knowledge and skill of the persons working in various industries and establishments. The Institute provides training in industrial, consumer and medical electronics besides, information technology and process control.


Training Courses

The Institute offers training courses with latest technological advancements for various categories of skilled and unskilled persons engaged in different professions. Its 48 weeks Long Term Courses in consumer and industrial electronics aim at upgrading the skill and knowledge of unemployed youth thus enhancing their chances of employment in highly skilled jobs in supervisory capacity. The course is open to the candidates who have passed through ITI from different fields such as electronics, radio and TV mechanic, Diploma in electronics and B.Sc (PCM). At the end of the training the National Council of Vocational Training conducts the examination and awards Higher National Technician Certificate (HNTC) to the successful candidates. HNTC is a recognized qualification for recruitment to the subordinate posts and services under the Central and State governments as well as Public Sector Units (PSUs).

The Institute also conducts Short Term Courses of 1-6 weeks duration regularly for personnel working in the field of electronics, information technology and process control instrumentation. These courses are recommended by the Committees of trade experts representing the industry and Institute’s Management Committee after identifying the needs of the industries. This helps the trainees in keeping abreast with the technological advancement. The course is also open to the private individuals, possessing requisite qualifications. The training areas include - Web Technology , Computer Networking, Optical Fibre Communication, PLC Programming and Maintenance of Bio-Medical Instruments. The participation level varies from high school to PhD and unemployed youth to the Chief Engineer. Some of the beneficiaries are from Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) Bokaro, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), National Fertiliser Limited (NFL), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Department of posts, Naval Dockyards, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), Technical Universities, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Engineering Colleges and Uttaranchal Police.

On request from industrial establishments and government /semi-government departments, Tailor Made Courses are conducted for improving the technical skills of participants comprising groups of 10-12 members in each. The curricula and schedules are decided in consultation with the sponsoring authority.

The Institute has also been conducting Special Short Term Courses for ITI Instructors on the use of Audio-Visual Aids and computers for effective teaching. The Instructors of ITIs from Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Punjab and West Bengal are making great use of these facilities.

Spread in an area of 17 acres, the Institute has a magnificent complex and a fine hostel for the trainees. It has a well-equipped library with a large collection of technical books and magazines on various subjects.

Trainees from different parts of the country are currently attending various technical courses run under one roof at the Institute. The Institute has so far conducted 547 training courses, benefiting 5,803 persons from the government and non-government sector. The annual intake of trainees is nearly 600 that may to go up to 2000 by the end of the Tenth Plan.

The Institute has been performing its major tasks with utmost responsibility by upgrading the skills of the youth and persons working in the industrial sector thereby, increasing the productivity and reducing the down time of equipments and machines in use.
