An 11-Member delegation led by Shri V.K. Duggal, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources will visit Dhaka from 13th to 16th September, 2004 for the 7th Meeting of the Joint Committee of Experts on sharing of the Waters of Teesta and six other rivers.

During the 6th meeting of the Joint Committee of Experts which was held in Delhi in January this year, an Indo – Bangladesh Joint Technical Group was constituted to examine all pending technical issues and make recommendations on the draft of the terms of Reference for the Joint Scientific Study to assess the availability and requirement of waters of the Teesta by each country and recommendations on the draft of the interim agreement for sharing of the lean season Teesta flows between the two countries. The Joint Technical Group after making field visits and holding discussions, has since submitted its report which will be discussed during the meeting of the Joint Committee of Experts. The Joint Technical Group had agreed on some of the issues while divergence of opinion remained on other issues. These issues will now be discussed in the coming meeting of the Joint Committee of Experts. It is hoped that the issues brought out by the Joint Technical Group would be further deliberated and sorted out in the meeting through mutual consultations in the spirit of cooperation characterizing close and friendly relations between the two countries.
