tamil nadu lifts best state award in the all india skill competition for craftsmen

Tamil Nadu has been declared as the Best State at the 40th All India Skill Competition for craftsman. Its three candidates were declared as Best Trainees. These are Ms. B. Geetha Kokilam of Government ITI (Women) Guindy, Chennai who topped in Cutting and Sewing Trade, Shri S. Suresh of CTI, Guindy in Electronics Mechanic and Shri K. Sasi Kumar of CTI Chennai in Welder trade. Shri D.T. Popatrao and Shri Bhokare Shantinath from Maharashtra bagged the Best Trainee Award in Machinist and Turmer trades respectively. The Best Trainee Award in Electrician trade was won by Shri Pradeep Kumar of Delhi, Mechanist (Motor Vehicle) by Shri B.M. Akshay Kumar of Karnataka, Moulder by Shri P. Sudhansusekhar of Orissa, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant by Shri K. Kathiresan of Pondicherry, Draughtsman Mechanical by Shri D. Pradhan of West Bengal and Draughtsman Civil by Shri R. Rajeev of Kerala. Nobody could qualify for Best Trainee Award in three trades namely, Fitter, Instrument Mechanic and Diesel Mechanic.

Each best candidate would be awarded a certificate of merit and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-. A merit certificate would also be awarded to the Best Institute (ITI) whose trainee stood first in each of the trades.

The competition was held in January this year by the Directorate General of Employment & Training of the Union Labour Ministry. Candidates of Advanced Training Institutes, Regional Vocational Training Institute and ITIs in 14 states participated in the competition, which was held in Mumbai, Kolkata, Kanpur and Chennai.
