railtel offers to provide facilities to telecom players

RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RCIL), a public sector unit of the Ministry of Railways, has offered its telecom infrastructure on commercial basis under its Infrastructure Provider Category-I and II, licence to M/s. Tata Tele Services, Reliance and other Cellular, Mobile and Cable TV operators.

The RCIL has been offering Band with services of various granularities, co-location facilities and other infrastructure like Dark Fibre and Tower Space to all the telecom services providers on commercial basis.

The RCIL has not tied up particularly and exclusively with any of the private telecom company.

Earlier in June 2003, RCIL signed a MOU with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to cooperate in exploring new business opportunities and furthering the growth of telecom, particularly in rural areas. Both the companies have agreed in principle to share their synergies, infrastructure and services.

BSNL may use RCIL’s infrastructure to provide continuous coverage to Cell One along specific sections and offer last mile an inter connection to RCIL for its various requirements
