A total of 56 projects have been transferred to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a special purpose vehicle, created to oversee and execute the National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY), to strengthen Golden Quadrilateral routes connecting the four Metros, its diagonal and port connectivity.
Out of this, ten projects of Golden Quadrilateral and eight projects of port connectivity are yet to be sanctioned.
RVNL is preparing bankability report for 28 projects. Reports for 20 projects have been received out of which 12 projects have been found bankable. Fourteen projects have been identified for execution through funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Pre-qualification bids for four ADB funded projects have been finalized. Tender opening has commenced on September 20, 2004.
A total of six projects are targeted for completion partly or fully during the current fiscal year 2004-2005.
NRVY was created last year with a corpus of Rs. 15000 crores as an extra-budgetary initiative to improve further rail infrastructure along Golden Quadrilateral, its diagonal, port connectivity and four mega bridges over a period of six years to meet the challenges of globalization of Indian economy and demands for increasing rail based traffic.
