The Ministry of Railways has handed over 234 more trains to the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for outsourcing of on board catering services.
Presently, the are 73 trains including five Rajdhani Expresses, 17 Jan Shatabdi Expresses, 16 Superfast trains and 32 Mail and Express trains in which onboard catering services are being managed by the private entrepreneurs, who are sub-licensed by the IRCTC.
The IRCTC has been set up as a public sector unit of the Ministry of Railways to professionalise and improve catering services on the Indian Railways in quality, cost effectiveness and competitiveness in tune with the emerging globalization of Indian economy.
