National Handloom Development Corporation has paid dividend of Rs.30.40 lakhs out of the profits generated for financial year 2003-04. The Cheque was presented to the Minister for Textiles Shri Shankarsinh Vaghela, here today.

National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd., a Government of India Undertaking, under the administrative control of the office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles has been set up to serve as an agency for the promotion and development of the handloom sector. The Corporation’s past track record has been quite satisfactory and it is paying dividend for the last 8 years i.e. since FY 1996-97. The Company has achieved a turnover of Rs.284.75 crore and recorded Post Tax Profit of Rs.145.14 lakh during FY 2003-04. The Corporation has got rating of “Very Good” as per MOU for the year 2003-04.

Mill Gate Price Scheme of Government of India is under implementation by the Corporation to ensure the basic raw material i.e. all varieties of yarn at reasonable and competitive prices. The Corporation is further enlarging its coverage in clusters for Yarn and Dyes & Chemicals. Corporation is also providing Marketing support to the Handloom Sector by organizing SILK FABs, Handloom Expos and establishment of Handloom Marketing Complexes (Handloom Havelis). Organisation of “Appropriate Technology Exhibition” by the Corporation has been successful to disseminate the latest technological upgradation among the handloom agencies.
