West Bengal Petroleum Dealers’ Association, led by Shri Tushar Kanti Sen, Working President, called on Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj, this morning. He placed before Shri Aiyar a petition seeking an increase in dealer’s commission; introduction of a consolidated system for dealers who are disadvantaged by low demand; sealing of underground tanks to eliminate adulteration; and to plead for a reduction in the sales tax on petrol and petroleum products in different States, including the higher rates in West Bengal as compared to the neighbouring State of Jharkhand.

Shri Aiyar listened to the demands of the Association. He explained the present difficulties in immediately meeting some of the requests, but added that he would be urgently taking up the question of sealing storage tanks to prevent adulteration. He confirmed that he had already written to all Chief Ministers requesting them to lower their sales tax rates in order to make their contribution to the containment of inflation.
