master plan for fish processing sector

Friday, September 24, 2004

The Government intends to evolve a master plan for all the coastal States to survey their marine resources. This would help in fully harnessing their potential. Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep are to get focussed attention.

The action plan envisages a proper growth of infrastructure and other facilities for fish processing and high value addition matching the global standards.

The proposed master plan would promote commercial fishery including deep-sea fishing and modernization of fishing gear. It would suggest specific measures to enhance the per capita consumption of fish. Ways to increase fish production and value addition in fish and fish products would be examined. Manpower developments in the fishing sector and to suggest measures to improve the condition of the fishing community are among its brief.
