The Chairman of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, Mr. Tan Sri Halim Mohammad called on the Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Sh. T. R. Baalu, here today. Mr. Halim Mohammad proposed that the two countries should explore the possibility of starting a passenger ship service between Portland (Malaysia) and Chennai. He suggested that if found viable, the shipping service can be run jointly by India and Malaysian shipping companies.
Sh. Baalu took note of Malaysias successful highway development programme and apprised Mr. Halim Mohammad of a similar highway development initiative of the Government of India. Mr. Halim Mohammad called for involvement of more Malaysian companies in the implementation of Phase-II of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).
