fdi will help in meeting housing & infrastructure demands - azad

A British Parliamentary delegation led by Mr. Peter Luff called on the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad here today. Welcoming them, Shri Azad said that while there is a strong friendship between the two countries there is a need to strengthen relationship between the newer generations of the two countries. He explained the various activities of Urban Development ministry and his role as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

Describing the various activities of urban development, Shri Azad told the visiting delegation difficulties in monitoring various central schemes in nearly 6000 cities. He also said that foreign direct investment can help in meeting the demand for houses and infrastructure in the country.

Reacting to one of the delegate, Shri Azad said that the Kashmir issue is blown out of the proportion and the last election in the state is the best referendum regarding the opinion of the people of Kashmir. Reacting to another delegate, regarding the focus of the government towards rural sector, Shri Azad said that the present government is planning to reach out to the most neglected areas and communities by developing roads, health and education facility.
