Thirty children received the National Painting Competition Awards for the years 2002 and 2003 for different categories, here today. The Awards were given by Smt. Kanti Singh, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development.
Presenting the Award Smt. Kanti Singh said that nurturing creativity among children is one of the most crucial aspects of child development. Applauding the award winning children Smt. Singh said that India has the largest population of children in the world; it is the responsibilities of both State and civil society to ensure that these treasures are adequately nurtured.
She referred to the example of Sir Stephen Hawkings of Great Britain, a severely disabled person, but a leading cosmologist in the world today.
The National Painting Competition Awards were given in five categories to 25 children for the year 2002 and another 25 children for the year 2003 at the National level. Out of 50 award winners, 20 have been selected for consolation prize, which will be sent to them. Prior to this a competition had been organised at the state level through the State/UT Councils and Institutional Members of ICCW all over the country in five categories.
The recipients of the Awards for 2002 in the Green Group (5-8 years) were Animesh Biswas from West Bengal (1st), Tanushi Sharma from Nanhi Dunya (2nd), Pratijayi Chatterjee from West Bengal (3rd), Madhushri Bhar from NCA (consolation) and Ganesh Dattaram Kadam from Maharashtra(consolation). In the White Group (9-12 years) the children were Subhodeep Maji from West Bengal (1st), Ayna Jain from Punjab (2nd), Ekta Singha from NCA (3rd), Vidya P. Salve from Maharashtra (consolation) and Antara De from NCA (consolation). In the Blue Group (13-16 years) the awardees were Somnath Sil from NCA (1st), Avijoy Saha from NCA (2nd), Divya Gupta from Haryana (3rd), Santanu Roy from NCA (consolation) and Vishnu P. Ramesh from Kerala (consolation). In the Disadvantage Children Yellow Group (5-10 years) the awardees were Santoshi Negi from Nanhi Dinya (1st), Debabrata Sarkar from NCA (2nd), Lakhvinder from Haryana (3rd), Archana P. Bhaskar from Karnataka (consolation) and Sandeep from Nanhi dunya (condolation). In the Red Group (11-18 years) the awards were Maya S. Mohan from Kerala (1st), Pritimanjari Dehuri from Orissa (2nd), Sumanta Sekhar Chandra from NCA (3rd) and Sunita Devi from Haryana (Consolation).
The Award winners for 2003 in the Green Group (5-8 years) were Mainak Guha from West Bengal (1st), Aishwarya Ganesh from Kerala (2nd), Sakshi Arora from Punjab(3rd), Rishav Saha from West Bengal (consolation) and Baijinder Kaur (consolation). In the White Group (9-12 years) the awardees were Piousmon Sunny from Kerala (1st), Sidhant Kappor from Punjab (2nd), Rahul Sarvothaman from Kerala (3rd), Nilesh Debnath from Tripura (consolation) and Irfan Hasan Shaikh from Maharashtra (consolation). In the Blue Group (13-16 years) the awardees were Sayan Roy Chowdhury from West Bengal(1st), Somnath Roy from Tripura (2nd), Sabir Alam from Rajasthan (3rd), Hussain Dawood Khan from Maharashtra (consolation) and Ekta Sinha from West Bengal (consolation). In the Yellow Group (5-10 years)-Handicapped, the awardees were Gaurav Bhatia from Rajasthan (1s), Sourav Das from West Bengal (2nd), Chirag from Haryana (3rd), Ritvik Sharma from Rajasthan (consolation) and Ravi Shukla Uttar Pradesh (Consolation). In the Red Group (11-18 years)-Handicapped the awardees were Moumita Paul from West Bengal (1st), Dipmala Chadne from Gujarat (2nd), Jwala from Uttaranchal (3rd), Garima from Madhya Pradesh (consolation) and Sunil Dangi from Haryana (consolation).
The National Painting Competition had been organised by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW). The scheme of this painting competition was started by ICCW in 1981 with the objective of creating aesthetic sense and consciousness about harmony and beauty among children.
The awardees received a silver medal, a certificate and cash prize. Eligible awardees will be given financial assistance upto Class XII under the Sponsorship Programme of the Council.
