Indian Railways have sanctioned the work of provision of Anti-Collision Device (ACD) on 3465 route kilometres on Northern, Northeast Frontier, Southern, South Central and South Western Railways.
To start with, work of providing first network of ACD as a pilot project has been taken in hand on Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to prove its features and functions. Field survey has been sanctioned.
The work on the NFR is to be completed during 2004-2005. Further, works on Indian Railways would be taken up after the success of the pilot project on the NFR.
Total estimated cost of provision of ACD on entire broad gauge network of Indian Railways is Rs. 1815 crores as included in the Corporate Safety Plan-2003-2013.
The ACD is a technological breakthrough invented by the Konkan Railway and designed to prevent head-on-collision of trains, thus enhancing safety of rail services.
