mid-term appraisal of tenth plan taken up

Planning Commission has already initiated mid-term appraisal of the Tenth Five Year Plan for assessing the progress with respect to the objectives laid down in the Scheme. The mid-term appraisal is normally undertaken in the third year of the Plan, for corrective actions if any needed, to achieve the objectives and targets envisaged.

Some of the milestones achieved in the first two years of the Tenth Plan i.e. 2002-2003 and 2003-2004, include a capacity addition of 6824 MW in the Power Sector. This is about 17 per cent of the Tenth Plan target, of 41,110 MW, recognising the importance of energy for infrastructural requirement. The target for 2004-05 is set at 5245 MW.

In respect of Golden Quadrilateral Highway Project 2198 kms., have already been completed, out of the total of 5846 kms. 840 more kms. is under progress.

Another mega Scheme like the National Highways i.e. the development of ports under the project “Sagar Mala” being taken up during the Tenth Plan period, is in the early stages. It will take off,once approved by the government, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division.
