Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Shri S. Jaipal Reddy today expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of eminent English litterateur Mulk Raj Anand, who breathed his last in Pune this morning.
In his condolence message to the family, Shri Reddy said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Shri Mulk Raj Anand. Shri Anand was a doyen of litterateur world who made a mark by his writings.
“He will ever remain an abiding source of inspiration to the young generation,” Shri Reddy said in his condolence message. Shri Reddy added that Shri Anand conferred with many awards including the Padma Bhusan for his contribution to English literature. He was a leading light in the Indian English literature and known for his novels 'Untouchable', 'Coolie', among others.
