Ministry of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation had organized a week long Artists Camp in association with HUDCO and Habiart Foundation in New Delhi as part of World Habitat Day celebrations. The camp was inaugurated by Kumari Selja, Minister of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation on October 3, 2005.
The Camp included eminent and young artists from different parts of India such as Dhiraj Chowdhury, Gogi Saroj Pal, Ved Nayar, Om Prakash Sharma, Sabia, Bratin Khan, Avijit Duta, Yusuf Sundip Roy, Sanjay Kumar, S. Harshavardhan, Subhra Das and Ankur Rana.
The theme of the Camp Tree of Life is an important symbol in nearly every culture. With its branches reaching into the sky, and roots deep in the earth, it dwells in three worlds-a link between heaven, earth and the Paatal. The essence of the Art Camp is to emphasize the important of nature and life as seen through the eyes of the artist. The six days long artists camp has resulted in some wonderful expressions on canvas.
The Art Camp is in keeping with the Governments efforts in trying to promote incorporation of works of art in projects supported by it with the aim to enhance the quality of the environment.
