The Government have notified today the appointment of Vice-Chairperson and Members of the National Disaster Management Authority. General N.C. Vij, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM (Retd.) has been appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the Authority. Shri K.M. Singh, Shri M. Shashidhar Reddy, MLA, LT. Gen. (Retd.) J.R. Bhardwaj, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, PHS, Dr. Mohan Kanda and Shri N. Vinod Chandra Menon have been appointed as Members.
The Vice-Chairperson of the Authority will have the status of Cabinet Minister and the Members of the Authority, the status of Minister of State.
The Government had earlier issued a notification on 30th May, 2005 constituting the National Disaster Management Authority with the Prime Minister as the Chairperson. It was mentioned therein that the Authority will have Members, not exceeding 9, to be nominated by the Prime Minister and one of the Members may be designated as Vice-Chairperson of the Authority by the Prime Minister.
The National Disaster Management Authority has been constituted by the Government for laying down the plans and policies for disaster management.
