Two year jail term for CBI Inspector

The Special Judge, Mumbai has convicted Shri Ranjit Kumar, Inspector, CBI to two years Rigorous Imprisonment and fine of Rs.5,000/- for abusing his office and taking undue favour from a transport company against whom a case was being investigated by him. CBI had registered a case against Kumar and another Inspector during April, 2003 on the allegation that they had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs.2.5 lakh from M/S DRS Transport Private Ltd. against whom a case was registered by CBI. Searches were conducted at Kumar's office & residence in Patna and certain incriminating articles were recovered.
Shri Ranjit Kumar who was the investigating officer of the case was transferred from Mumbai to Patna. He abused his official position and made the private transport company to transport his luggage from Mumbai to Patna free of cost while the company had to incur an expenditure of about Rs.18,000/-. He was put under suspension following this.

Shri K.S. Rai, Inspector has already been convicted for demanding and accepting bribe and given five years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. One lakh by Special Judge, Mumbai in February, 2005.
