thiru t. r. baalu approves grant to 28 organizations for refresher training for hmv drivers in unorgnized sector

The Union Minister for Shipping & Road Transport Thiru T.R. Baalu has approved an amount of Rs. 3,00,68,500 for grant-in-aid to 28 Orgnizations under the scheme "Refresher Training for Heavy Motor Vehicle Drivers in Unorganized Sector" to impart training to 42,350 HMV drivers.

All these organizations have been recommended by the State Governments which are responsible for satisfying themselves about the availability of adequate infrastructure with these organizations to impart training to the drivers in the Unorganised Sector.

The largest number (11,000) of these drivers will be imparted training at Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR), Delhi which is jointly run by Government of Delhi and Maruti Udyog Ltd. Similarly the Central Institute of Road Transport, (CIRT), Pune, a centre of excellence associated with the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways will impart training to 5000 drivers.

The main objective of the Scheme is to upgrade the skills of the Drivers and impart safe driving habits. HIV AIDS awareness also forms part of the training.

The Drivers are compensated for the wages foregone for two days, given three medical check-ups and accident insurance for one years as part of the training programme.

Under the scheme, the total grant is released in two installments – 50 per cent after execution of bond and submission of detailed time bound programme and remaining 50 per cent after completion of final programmes and submission of Final Action Taken Report (FATR) from the concerned State Government.
