Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved the setting up of Teesta Low Dam Hydroelectric Project - Stage-IV (4 X 40 MW) in West Bengal by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited. The estimated cost of the project would be Rs.1061.38 crores (net) at March 2005 price level including Interest During Construction (IDC) component and financing charges amounting to Rs.69.71 crores. 75% of equity will be provided by Government of India and balance 25% of equity will be borne by NHPC. The completion period of this project is likely to be 48 months from the date of Government approval. The project will generate 720 MU in a 90% dependable year.

The entire power generated from this project would be allocated to West Bengal, thus helping in reducing peaking power shortage in the State.

The Teesta Low Dam Hydroelectric Project Stage-IV (4 X 40 MW) is a run of the river scheme in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. The project involves construction of a 45 meter high concrete gravity / reinforced cement concrete (RCC) dam.
