Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman, Vice Chief of the Army decorated ten officers of Territorial Army (TA) for their meritorious services, here today. The officers of TA, unlike those from the Regular Army, are part time officer who don the uniform to serve the nation, apart from pursuing their primary jobs in their civil professions.

Those decorated by TA medals are drawn from a variety of civil professions. Amongst them are Lt Col Jitendra Prasad who is Deputy General Manager (Chemicals) of ONGC, Lt Col PK Mangotra, a pharmacist, Lt Col M Arnchamy of the Income Tax Department; Lt Col KK Tanwar, an advocate and Lt Col Rakesh Mehta, a marketing executive.

Interestingly, two staff nurses from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak – Maj Satwanti Devi and Maj Jiwani Devi were also similarly decorated. Both of them have been in Territorial Army since 1984. While Maj Satwanti is a Staff Nurse with Operation Theatre, Maj Jiwani Devi is a Ward Incharge at PGI, Rohtak.

Many industrialists, politicians and eminent personalities have also been members of the Citizens Army, as TA is popularly known. These include Brig KP Singh Deo (ex RRM), Brig Kapil Mohan (CMD, Mohan Meakin), Maj Sanjay Singh (ex MP), Col Sudhir Sawant (ex MLC) and Maj Subhir Raha (Chairman and MD of ONGC)

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman lauded the role of TA especially during the ongoing Counter Insurgency in J&K. He also lauded preservation of ecology and environment by specialist Ecology battalions of TA.
