The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2005 introduced in Lok Sabha on 22nd August, 2005 has been referred to the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry headed by Shri Santosh Bagrodia, M.P. for examination and report.

2. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory body established under the Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act, 1956 (61 of 1956) to provide for the establishment of a Commission for the development of Khadi and Village Industries and for matters connected therewith. It has, however, been found that due to certain difficulties, there has been a steep decline in employment in the Khadi sector and sales of Khadi products since 1997-98 have remained more or less stagnant. The Bill seeks to amend the existing KVIC Act, 1956 to revamp KVIC and launch new programmes.

3. For having wider consultation on the provisions of the Bill, the Committee invites suggestions/views in the form of memoranda (two copies either in English or in Hindi) from individuals/organizations/institutions having interest in the subject matters of the Bill which may be sent to Shri A.K.Singh, Deputy Secretary, Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Room No. 515, Fifth Floor, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi-110001 (Tel:23034543 and Fax 23013917), E-mail anandsingh@sansad.nic.in ) within fifteen days of the publication of this advertisement. Request for copies of the Bill may be sent at the address given above. The text of the Bill is also available on website http://10.21.217.2/legislative/amendbills/amdndbillmain.htm

4. The memoranda submitted to the Committee would form part of its records and would be treated as confidential and should not be publicized. Any violation in this regard would constitute a breach of privilege of the Committee.

5. Those willing to tender oral evidence before the Committee, besides submitting memoranda, are requested to indicate so for consideration of the Committee and its decision in the matter shall be final.
