Shri Surajit Sen, a distinguished senior newscaster and commentator with AIR and DD met Gen JJ Singh, the Chief of Army Staff in his office today.

Mr Sen had covered the 1971 Bangladesh war, first hand, moving alongwith the Indian Army wherein he was a witness to various aspects of the war, including the surrender of the Pakistani Army in the erstwhile East Pakistan and formation of the Interim Govt of Bangladesh. During this war, he collected various letters from people who played major role in the war, some photographs and mementos. One such memento is a Pakistani Pistol then presented to him by the Indian Army. It is a Point 32 weapon, made in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Mr Sen today formally handed over these historic artifacts, mementos and documents to the COAS for display in any Services museum. The COAS thanked Mr Sen for his kind gesture and assured him that these valuable historical artifacts would find a suitable place in the army.

Shri Surajit Sen was the first foreign correspondent to reach Dacca after its surrender. He has carried out many exclusive interviews. Those interviewed included the top political leaders of the newly founded Bangladesh, intellectuals, student leaders and members of Badr Bahini and Razakars. He also produced several special features to include ‘On the name of Islam’ and ‘The Anatomy of a Pakistani Soldier’. On extreme right of the historic photograph taken on the occasion of surrender by the Pakistan Forces in the erstwhile East Pakistan, Shri Surajit Sen is prominently seen.
