The Vice President, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, currently on a four-day visit to Romania, has announced two scholarships for Romanian students studying Indian epics. The announcement was made by Shri Shekhawat at a reception hosted by the Indian Ambassador Shri Ram Mohan at Bucharest, last evening.
The announcement came as Shri Shekhawat witnessed an enthralling rendering of Indian songs and dances by two Romanian girls as part of the cultural programme presented during the reception. Later, the Vice President was told about the deep interest evinced by Romanians in India and Indological studies.
Shri Shekhawat said that a Chair of Hindi language has already been set up in Bucharest University and a curriculum relating to Indian authors in Hindi and English languages has been introduced in another University. Shri Shekhawat complimented the Romanian Government for naming a road in Bucharest after Mahatma Gandhi and also for installing a statue of Rabindra Nath Tagore in the National Auditorium and for naming the main Auditorium in Targointt University after Rabindra Nath Tagore. He suggested that it would be a great honour for humanity if a bust of Mahatma Gandhi was installed in the proposed theme park `Dialogue of Civilisation in Romania.
Earlier, the Vice President visited the majestic Peles castle-turned-museum in Romanias mountain town of Sinaia. The 130 year old castle has a display of various Indian & European relics including the antique furniture gifted by Maharaja of the erstwhile Kapurthala state, battle knives and other weapons and armoury.
