The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Concession Agreement for 4-laning the Pimpalgaon-Dhule Section of NH 3 in Maharashtra. The Rs. 556 Crore BOT (Build Operate Transfer) contract is by far the largest in terms of length and project cost under NHDP-Phase III A. The 4-laning of this high-traffic density corridor is expected to be completed in 36 months.
The Agreement was signed by NHAI authorities with M/s IRCON SOMA Tollway Pvt. Ltd to 4-lane the 118 km long Pimpalgaon Dhule Section of NH 3 (km 380 to km 265) on BOT basis. Presently, the Pimpalgaon Dhule Section is 2-lane but on completion, this 118 km stretch would be a 4-laned road with paved shoulders. In addition, it would have nearly 14 kms of service roads on either side in the following towns and villages through which the 4-lane highway would pass---Dhule city, the villages of Laling, Arvi, Zodge, Malegaon, Saundane , Umbrane , Rahud , Chandwad township and Vadali Bhui village. The widened and strengthened road would have two toll plazas, two truck laybys and one rest area (near Renuka Devi Temple at km 352).
This is the fourth Concession Agreement signed under NHDP Phase-IIIA, coming close on the heels of the Rs. 483 crore Mahua-Jaipur BOT contract in Rajasthan signed recently. The 4-laning of Pune-Khed Section of NH-50 (about 30 km) was the first sub-project under NHDP Phase III. Also LOA (Letter of Acceptance) has been issued to 10 (ten) other civil works in the states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chattisgarh.
