Rescue and relief operations in Jammu and Kashmir are continuing on a war footing. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been co-ordinating the relief efforts at the Centre. 5800 tents have already been air-lifted to the earth quake- hit State. 1,870 tarpaulins and 1,23,930 blankets have also been sent to the State. 10,000 pieces of woolen clothes have been dispatched and another 10,000 are being sent by road by the Punjab Government. 40 MT of medicines and 51,200 litres of drinking water have also been dispatched. The Department of Food has sent 30 MT of sugar by air and 4 racks containing 2,480 MT of sugar each. Of these one rack has already reached the State and the stock has been distributed. 3,000 KL of kerosene has been sanctioned for release to the Jammu and Kashmir Government. Starting from today, the Ministry of Home Affairs is organizing the dispatch of 1,000 tents per day from Kanpur for the next five days.
