The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Women & Child Development has increased the number of categories for the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award for Service to Children’ from the current one individual to three individuals from the year 2006. The Award carries cash prize of Rupees one lakh and a citation to each awardee and will be given annually. According to an official announcement three individuals will be selected for their outstanding services in the following fields:
(i) Child Development
(ii) Child Protection
(iii) Child Welfare
The three individuals to be selected for the awards should have worked for the cause of children for over ten years. Paid officers of the institutions will not be eligible for selection. The award will be announced on the birthday of late Shri Rajiv Gandhi on 20th August every year. The selection of the awardees will be made by a National Selection Committee, out of the cases recommended by State Governments/UT Administrations and experts under the Chairmanship of Minister for Human Resource Development.
