Railway Board has reviewed the progress of 14 on-going projects initiated by the Research, Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) of the Ministry of Railways under the Technology Mission on Railway Safety and Re-designing of Wagons here last evening. The Board has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, which include on-board diagnostics, wheels and axles of improved metallurgy, measuring wheel technology, corrosion prevention of rails, improved rail fastenings, rail flow detection instrumentation, satellite imaging for all navigation, environmental friendly coach toilet discharge system, censors for detecting hot boxes-hot wheels, derailment detection devices, solid state inter-locking, fog vision instrumentation and in-cab signalling, track side bogie monitoring system, computer aided remote control signaling and train describer system with display panel under technology mission on Railway Safety and project on Re-designing of Wagons to maximize loadability for 22.0 tons axle load. A presentation was also made by RDSO with respect to the current status of these projects in the presence of Chairman, Railway Board, Shri J.P.Batra and senior officials of the Board.
These projects have been initiated to develop cost effective technological solutions indigenously for Indian Railways to bring about improvement in safety standard and increase in productivity. Most of these projects under the Technology Mission on Railway Safety have been taken on by RDSO in coordination with IIT, Kanpur.
