Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) released an amount of Rs.111.34 crore as margin money under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) and Rs. 392.33 lakh for backward and forward linkages to its Field Offices during August 2005. Under the Human Resource Development Programme of KVIC, 2065 persons were trained at the Training Centres of KVIC and KVIBs during the same period.
During April-August 2005, as per provisional estimates, a total 52804 MTs of coir and coir products valued at Rs.18223.79 lakh have been exported as against 47988 MTs valued at Rs.19258.47 lakh exported during the same period of previous year. During August 2005, 3110 candidates (2427 from Kerala, 300 from Karnataka, 153 from Tamil Nadu, 90 from Orissa and 140 from Andhra Pradesh) were trained in spinning coir yarn on motorized ratts traditional ratts.
