The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has taken up nine more new projects for monitoring their progress. These projects already under implementation include, 3 from Railways, 4 Road Transport and Highways and 2 from the Telecom Sector. This is stated in the latest Flash Report of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, after a review of the Central Sector Projects, each costing Rs.100 crore and above, during the month June 2005.
Railways; the new projects taken up for monitoring are, the Pratapnagar-Chota Udaipur, Gauge conversion of the Western Railway, costing Rs.148.61 crore. Approved in April this year, the project is awaiting the anticipated date of completion. The Bilaspur-Urkura doubling of the line of South-Eastern and Central Railways, originally estimated to cost Rs.151.52 crore. Approved in April 1997, the project has already reported a cost over-run of over Rs.75 crore, is also awaiting the anticipated date of commissioning. The third project i.e. the Harmati-Itanagar/Naharlagun, New line of the North-Eastern Frontier Railway, approved in April 1996 at a original cost of Rs.156 crore. Though the anticipated cost of the project remains the same, it has not yet been assigned the date of completion.
Road Transport and Highways: Hapur-Garhmukteshwar Project, approved in March this year with the original cost being Rs.275 crore and date of commissioning September 2007. The anticipated cost and date of completion remained the same. The Garhmukteshwar-Muradabad Project of the National Highways Authority of India was approved in December 2003 at a original cost of Rs.275 crore and with the date of completion being September 2007. No change in anticipated cost or date of commissioning. Another project also of the National Highways Authority of India is the improvement of Access of Golden Quadrilateral within Chennai city, approved in December 2003 at a original cost of Rs.196 crore with the date of completion being April 2007. No changes reflected in the anticipated cost or date of completion. Another project also of NHAI is the Chennai By-Pass approved in April this year at a original cost of Rs.480 crore with the date of completion being November 2007. While the anticipated cost remained the same in this case, the date of completion has been postponed to January 2008.
Telecom, the Projects are : Expansion of existing GSM400 of the MTNL, approved in January 2004, at a original cost of Rs.216.37 crore with date of commissioning being January this year. While the anticipated cost of the project remained the same, it is now expected to be ready by the end of this month. The other project also of MTNL, is Expansion of 400 KGSM, approved in January 2004, with the original cost being 227.42 crore and date of completion January this year. While there was no change in the anticipated cost of this project, its date of completion was put off to August this year. *****
