Shri Baljit Singh Lalli has taken over as Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj on October 1, 2005. He succeeds Shri Wajahat Habibullah who retired on September 30, 2005.
An officer of IAS 1971 batch (UP cadre), Shri Lalli was Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development before assuming the present charge.
