Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with Jawahar Lal Nehru Cultural Centre, Moscow and Sangeet Natak Akademi is going to organise a nine-day long cultural festival entitled Days of India in Russia from 26th September, 2005. The festival will be inaugurated by Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture on 26th September, 2005 in the presence of his Russian counterpart. Altogether, a contingent of 96 artists (66 folk artists and 30 classical artists) will be performing in four cities of Russia viz. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaluga and Tver.
At the inaugural function, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma will give a recital on santoor. This will be followed by Tchaikovskys ballet Swan Lake being performed in Mohiniyattam style by the renowned exponent of Mohiniyattam Smt. Bharti Shivaji and her students.
The rest of the programmes for the festival are:
27th September: Folk ensemble at Maliy Theatre, Moscow
29th September: Santoor recital by Rahul Sharma & Swan Lake ballet in Mohiniyattam style by Bharti Shivaji and her students at the Conservatory Theatre, St. Petersburg.
30th September: Folk ensemble at Conservatory Theatre, St. Petersburg
2nd October: Folk ensemble at Regional Philharmonic Hall, Kaluga
3rd October: Folk ensemble at Regional Acad. Theatre of Drama, Tver
4th October: The finale of the festival at the International Performing Arts Centre, Moscow
(A ninety minute programme will be presented by Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Dr. L. Subramaniam)
This 10-day festival is a reciprocal event to the Days of Russia held in India in 2003. The Creative Director for the festival is Shri Bansi Kaul and the designer for the puppet exhibition is Shri Neeraj Sahai.
