The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of July 2005 was released here today, by the Central Statistical Organisation, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The General Index stands at 212.1, which is 6.7% higher as compared to the level in the month of July 2004.
The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of July 2005 stand at 146.9, 224.3, and 184.1 respectively, with the corresponding growths of (-)0.4%, 8.3% and (-)1.2% as compared to July 2004. The cumulative growth during April-July, 2005-06 over the corresponding period of 2004-05 in the three sectors have been 3.1%, 10.4% and 5.3% respectively, with the overall growth in the General Index being 9.3%
Alongwith the Quick Estimates of IIP for July 2005, the indices for June 2005 have undergone the first revision and those for April 2005, the second (final) revision in the light of the updated data received from the source agencies. There are no significant revisions in the indices for April 2005 and June 2005.
As many as 13 of the 17 two-digit industry groups have shown positive growth during the month of July 2005 as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. 'Beverages, Tobacco and Related Products’’ have shown the highest growth of 26.7%, followed by 24.0% in 'Other Manufacturing Industries’ and 21.4% in ‘Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel)’. On the other hand, 'Metal Products and Parts, except Machinery and Equipment’ have shown a negative growth of 19.2% followed by a decline of 5.0% in 'Wood and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures’ and 3.0% in ‘Wool, Silk and Man-made Fibre Textiles’.
As per Use-based classification, the growth in July 2005 over July 2004 is 3.9% in Basic goods, 13.9% in Capital goods and 2.9% in Intermediate goods. The Consumer durables and Consumer non-durables have recorded growth of 5.2% and 13.1% respectively, with the overall growth in Consumer goods being 11.0%.
