Northern and East Central Railways are planning to run special trains during the festival season to cope with the passenger rush during ‘Durga Puja’, Dipawali, Chhat Puja’ etc, between Delhi Sarai Rohilla and certain destinations in Bihar.. A large number of special trains are run every year in order to cater to heavy movement of passengers during the festive seasons. A total of 734 special trains have already been notified all over the Indian Railways to clear the ‘Puja’ and festival season rush this year. Some of these special trains originating on the North Frontier and Eastern Railways also will incidentally pass through Bihar.

In view of the forth-coming assembly elections in Bihar, the Ministry of Railways had approached the Election Commission for clearance of running special trains to meet the festival rush during the current season. In its letter to Secretary, Railway Board of dated 29th September 2005, the Election Commission has given clearance for running special trains inter-alia, with the proviso that the number of such special trains does not increase in the current season compared to the last year and also that the stoppages and halts of such special trains are not increased. The number of special trains and halts are being regulated accordingly by the Railways.
