Chairman, Railway Board, Shri J.P.Batra has stressed upon the need for speedy installation of Anti Collision Device (ACD) on maximum railway routes throughout the country to minimize incidents of train accidents. Speaking at a Presentation on ACD by representatives from Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KTCL) here today, Shri Batra has urged railway officials for timely completion of ongoing ACD projects especially on North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) and to chalk out full fledged plan to extend this safety system in other Zonal railways as early as possible. He hoped that during the Site Acceptance Tests of ACD, all discrepancies related to power, communication networking, signalling system etc. will be taken care of to make the ACD more effective and successful.
Survey for ACD projects on 3339 route kilometres on Southern Railway, South Central Railway and South Western Railway including 385 stations commenced in 2003. ACD has been installed on 1700 route kilometres Broad Gauge section of NFR and 760 route kilometres on Konkan Railway. After completion of installation, checking and fine-tuning of ACD by Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd on 760-route kilometres Katihar-Guwahati section of NFR, Site Acceptance Test has started from 31.07.2005. The effectiveness of ACD system will be assessed after completion of Site Acceptance Test, which is carried out by Research Design and Standards Organisation.
Safety is the prime concern of India Railways and adoption of new measures to improve safety is a continuous process. The measures being taken by Indian Railways to minimize incidence of accidents include adoption of suitable modern technology for interlocking and signalling system, upgradation standards of track and rolling stock, modernization of maintenance practices, replacement of over aged assets, provision of ACD and upgradation of training aid like simulators.
