The total earnings of Indian Railways during the month of August 2005 were Rs. 4119.82 crores compared to Rs. 3518.37 crores during August last year registering an increase of 17.09%. The total earnings were 5.37% more than the budget target of Rs. 3910.01 crores.
The total number of passengers booked during August 2005 were 479.40 millions compared to 455.99 millions during the same period last year showing an increase of 5.13%. In the suburban, the total number of passengers booked during this period were 267.01 millions and in non-suburban were 212.39 millions with an increase of 1.38% and 10.26% compared to 263.37 millions and 192.62 millions respectively during the same period last year.
The total passenger revenue earnings on originating basis during last month were Rs.1215.66 crores with an increase of 12.93% over Rs. 1076.44 crores earnings during August last year. The total passenger earnings were 2.64% more than the Budget target of Rs. 1184.35 crores for the same period.
The total goods earnings of Rs. 2779.66 crores have shown an increase of 19.19% during the month of August 2005 over Rs. 2332.13 crores of corresponding period last year with an increase of 7.73% over the Budget target of Rs. 2580.13 crores for the same period.
There is also an increase of 10.72% in revenue earnings from other coaching during the month of August 2005 with earnings of Rs. 88.96 crores compared to Rs. 80.35 crores during the same month last year.
